With a view to establish a platform for advanced training, education and research in the field of GI endoscopy, Amol Bapaye envisioned to establish a foundation to support education and research in the field of endoscopy in 2013. The aim of this foundation is also to educate and update the general public about the advantages of such minimally invasive technologies and create awareness about digestive diseases in general.
The Foundation for Research and Education in Endoscopy (FREE) was started in 2013 as a non-profit organization. The vision of FREE is to create a platform for advanced training, education and research in the field of GI endoscopy. FREE also conducts public awareness campaigns and provides easy, widespread and convenient access to the public about latest non-invasive techniques in digestive endoscopy. FREE encourages international collaboration in areas of endoscopic research and technology development.
During last 7 years, FREE has hosted 7 International Conferences and 250 trainees and workshops and conducted 15 hands on training programs in various fields of interventional endoscopy – ERCP, EUS, Third space endoscopy, endoscopic resection and others. FREE has supported training of over 100 aspiring endoscopists and has supported several research projects in endoscopic technique and technology.
FREE also regularly conducts public awareness programs related to digestive disorders and the utility and benefits of endoscopic technology for treatment of these ailments.
